We partnered with Danske Bank to create TheHub.dk, a platform that aims to relieve the pains of Danish startups and provide a platform for Danske Bank to engage with the startup ecosystem.

Participating in the Future

Danske Bank came to us in the Fall of 2015 with an exciting challenge: to create and run a project that would add value to Danish startups and accelerate the growth of early stage companies.

Danske Bank wanted to test new forms of engagement with emerging businesses. By actively participating in the Danish startup ecosystem, they gain early insights into new technologies and business models that could impact their business in the future.

By supporting startups at an early stage, helping them succeed and grow, Danske Bank also creates a wider stream of potential future customers.

An Online Recruiting Platform, Community and Resource Center

After over 100 founder interviews, we found three major pain points faced by Danish startups:

  1. Recruitment: lack of a nationwide, startup focused job board
  2. Funding: navigating the overwhelming number of investors and funding options to find the right choice
  3. Knowledge Sharing: capitalizing on the experience of successful founders to accelerate progress

With these three problems in mind, we created The Hub.

Top Tech Talent

Targeting recruitment first, we built a job board tailored specifically to startups.

We found that startups rely on their own networks and traditional job boards for hiring. But they were missing something fit for purpose. Specifically for entrepreneurs. Targeting job seekers interested in joining startups.

We’ve now created over 550 startup profiles and see over 11000 weekly visits, converting to 600 weekly applications. This is paired with great feedback from both startups and applicants using the site.

"We received far more applications through the Hub compared to elsewhere. All the applicants were relevant and part of our target group. For those reasons, I would recommend the Hub (and have already done it)"

Connection With Investors

To help navigate the funding options available to Danish startups, our next solution was to create a tool which could match startups with the most relevant options for them, based on their industry, experience, level of maturity and team size. This included profiles of the top 50 investors in Denmark.

Access to Expert Knowledge

Knowledge sharing posed the greatest challenge. The majority of the information startups need is topical, specific to their industry, stage and product.

The Hub therefore needed to address the need for both startup specific, and generic content. To achieve this, we’ve started to develop a mentor matching scheme to pair startups with relevant advisors.

Meanwhile, we’ve also developed a number of tools to share best practices around some of the steps almost all startups follow. From raising funds to gaining the very first customers.

Widening The Hub’s Reach

Today, the Hub is the largest startup recruitment site in Denmark. And, we’re now applying what we’ve learned across the Nordics, launching Hubs in Norway and Sweden, opening up opportunities for cross-country applications in markets where Danske Bank is most active.
